Dans le cadre du projet Van Dan Vil de l’association abité, le cabinet ‘architecture abité a réalisé une passionnante intervention temporaire de piétonnisation dans la Rue Garnier Pages, au centre de la ville de Fort-de-France. Ce projet, basé sur le concept d’urbanisme tactique, a démontré qu’il est possible de transformer un espace urbain rapidement, à faible coût et avec un impact maximal.

Avec un investissement d’environ 25 euros par mètre carré, cette intervention temporaire a réussi à créer une atmosphère dynamique et conviviale dans la rue. La participation citoyenne a été essentielle, avec la collaboration active des résidents et des commerçants du quartier. Dans la première phase, le collectif d’artistes madrilènes Boa Mistura, reconnu internationalement, a été invité à apporter leur créativité et leur talent à la transformation de la rue.

Dans une deuxième phase, la construction de terrasses à usage public est proposée, ce qui permettra aux citoyens de profiter de l’espace extérieur et favorisera les interactions sociales. Pendant trois mois, la municipalité a déclaré la rue piétonne, entraînant un changement significatif dans la dynamique du lieu. Ce projet a eu un impact médiatique notable et a activé d’autres processus citoyens et politiques, générant des discussions avec les citoyens sur la possibilité de pérenniser la piétonnisation de la rue.

Aujourd’hui, la Rue Garnier Pages est devenue un lieu animé et vivant. De nouveaux commerces ont émergé dans la zone, créant une offre diversifiée et attirant visiteurs et résidents. L’espace piéton a permis la réalisation d’activités ludiques, telles que des parties d’échecs en plein air, séance du cinema, etc. et offre un environnement sécurisé pour que les enfants puissent jouer et s’amuser.

Cette intervention temporaire a démontré qu’il est possible de transformer nos rues de manière créative et participative. La Rue Garnier Pages est un exemple inspirant de la façon dont un investissement limité et une approche axée sur l’expérience peuvent avoir un impact significatif sur la qualité de vie des citoyens. Alors que la rue continue d’évoluer, il est évident que cette initiative a laissé une empreinte durable dans la communauté, et que la piétonnisation de la rue est une étape importante vers un avenir urbain plus convivial, inclusif et dynamique.
